Since its establishment in 1987, AITEC has been serving Africa’s information technology market by providing the following services:

  • Computers+ Telecommunications in Africa magazine – The definitive guide to Information Technology in Africa
  • Digital Africa (www.aitecafrica.com) –The web site that pulls together all key sources of information and news on the continent’s digital transformation
  • Exhibitions – Over 40,000 computing and communications professionals and other purchasers visit AITEC exhibitions each year in a wide range of countries, providing highly effective marketing platforms
  • Conferences – The continent’s top national and regional IT conferences, established as key educational events for Africa’s computing and communications professional
  • ACT - The African Computing & Telecommunications Summit – Now established as the most important annual gathering of Africa’s IT professionals, policy-makers, suppliers and innovators.
  • Consultancy and Research Services – AITEC has undertaken a number of important studies, including:
    • A study on Internet Cost Reduction in Africa for the UK government’s Department for International Development
    • A comparitive study of VSAT Satellite licensing regimes in Africa
    • The African Communications Infrastructure and Services Report, 2002-03

 

Thinking globally – acting locally

AITEC has a clear vision of, and strong commitment to, Africa’s digital transformation to strengthen its position in the world economy. It works closely with national and regional professional associations and multilateral organisations to achieve the common goals of:

  • Spreading computing and communications knowledge;
  • Expanding the African IT market and promoting competition;
  • Developing local capacity – both internally within AITEC and more broadly within the markets we work in.

The African IT Education Trust

Initiated by AITEC, the Trust was established in 1999, under the patronage of Graca Machel, to mobilise funding for IT education projects aimed at Africa’s youth. The Trust is providing support to the SchoolNet Africa project and is developing Information Sciences Enterprise Campuses to promote high-level IT knowledge (www.aitet.org)
