United Nations (UN) Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Task Force (TF) United Nations (UN) Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Task Force (TF)
Mission:

Launched on 20th November 2001, the Task Force has a mandate to facilitate global interconnectivity and spread the digital revolution. It provides leadership to the UN in formulating strategies for the development of ICT, and guides the confluence of ICT with the UN's wider development targets contained in the Millennium Declaration.

ICT focus:

The new body will not be an operational or implementing body itself, rather it will galvanise the efforts of partner organisations and provide leadership in harnessing the power of ICT to advance the targets of the Millennium Declaration. It will also endeavour to forge strategic partnerships between critical industry actors. The Task Force has important linkages with the DOT Force and will co-ordinate to avoid the duplication of efforts in overlapping areas.

Programme activities

The Task Force has 4 organs: its own secretariat, a panel of expert technical advisors, incipient regional networks and proposed working groups. These will work to achieve the objectives laid out in the Plan of Action which involve short term, medium term and long term goals.
