Service for Information Technology in International Agriculture (SITIA) Service for Information Technology in International Agriculture (SITIA)
Mission:

A USA-based NGP focussed on development of information technologies that lead towards sustainable agriculture, natural resource conservation and rural economic development.

ICT Focus:

"SITIA believes that enhanced economic development in agricultural and forest rural communities is dependent on promoting strong, sustainable agricultural and forestry practices. The successful implementation and use of these practices are heavily dependent on information access and management".

Programme activities:

  • Agrivistais a project that aims to develop a search tool specifically for agriculture. Agrivista will enable searching across multiple, dissimilar database systems, without requiring the researcher to learn multiple interfaces and search protocols. It will be specific to agriculture, using specialised thesauri. Agrivista is being developed with the support of major institutions in the CGIAR and the FAO. The project will also produce information management software that can be used within institutions, such as national agriculture ministries and research stations.
