Mission:

The Markle Foundation is a US-based foundation 'to promote the advancement and diffusion of knowledge and the general good of mankind.'

ICT focus:

The Foundation has a number of ICT-related programmes - see below.

Programme activities:

The Global Internet Policy Initiative supports the Center for Democracy and Technology and Internews in providing a resource for business and other stakeholders on internet policy issues. It also aims to identify country-specific legal and regulatory impediments to internet development, and to work with local partners to integrate open internet principles.

The Global Network Readiness and Resource Initiative is designed to help developing countries assess their current capacity to take advantage of ICTs and assist them in developing strategies to enhance ICT use for development.
